HIRAM, Ohio – The Ohio high school girls basketball season began for both Aurora and Avon on Sunday afternoon at the second annual Ohio Tip-Off Classic with Avon coming away with a 45-34 win at Hiram College’s Price Gymnasium.
After leading just 21-20 at the half, Avon (1-0) started to pull away in the third quarter, as the Eagles went on a 11-2 run to start the period.
The run was led by sophomore guard Alaina Pagan, who knocked down a 3-pointer and on the next possession, drove to the basket for a layup while being fouled and hit the free throw.

After Aurora (0-1) had cut the lead to just five and had a chance to get it closer late in the quarter, Pagan grabbed a rebound on the defensive end and raced up the floor, splitting two defenders for a layup.
Avon scored seven of the first nine points in the fourth quarter and held the Greenmen to just three points total in the final frame.
Pagan finished with a game-high 19 points and was named the Player of the Game for Avon. Amelia Holbrook scored 10, Abigail Owens had seven, Jayde Palmer had five and Emily Mangan had four.
Aurora’s Brooke Pierce was the Player of the Game for the Greenmen with 10 points, nine of those coming in the first half. Addison Witting scored five, while Reese Witting, Jenna Zuelch and Caitlin Pierce had four each and Julia Miller and Jillian Monastero scored two each.
